SLOW METABOLISM

On a day to day basis, many of us may experience a decrease in thyroid activity which may result in fatigue and slowed metabolism. This may happen for a short duration due to stress in our lives and diet changes. If it occurs on a regular basis many body functions begin to suffer. This is often diagnosed as hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is an underproduction of the thyroid hormone by the body. Symptoms are many and varied including weight gain, fatigue, feelings of being cold, muscle weakness, muscle cramps, menstrual irregularities, dry skin, hair loss, constipation, and difficulty concentrating to name a few. A medical doctor may be able to diagnose low thyroid with blood tests. This test is not 100% accurate. Sometimes the thyroid is secreting hormones properly which results in an apparently normal test. However, when the cells of the body are unable to utilize these hormones due to imbalances in the system, the body then still suffers low thyroid symptoms. The following program is designed to help support proper thyroid function by the body as well as proper thyroid hormone uptake by the cells. This program can be used in conjunction with your thyroid medication. Your doctor needs to be aware that you are taking supplements to help support thyroid function so he can monitor you progress, and adjust the medication periodically as you improve.

Thyroid Support - This is our base formula for the thyroid, it is a combination of herbs, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed for proper thyroid function. Take 1 capsule twice daily.

OR:

Thyroid Activator Is a blend of herbs that provide nutrients to feed and strengthen the thyroid. It is particularly high in iodine an important mineral for thyroid health. Take 4-6 capsules per day.

Note: Both Thyroid Support and Thyroid Activator nourish the thyroid gland, I consider Thyroid support to be a stronger formula. It is based on some of the most current research on the thyroid. Thyroid Activator on the other hand is an herbal blend created by the famous herbalist, the late Dr. John R. Christopher over 30 years ago. this formula has been tried and found true as far as thyroid support goes. So which do you choose? If I had to choose just one I would try Thyroid support first, as being a stronger formula I find you can use fewer pills to get results. But because each person is different they may respond better to one formula over another based on individual needs. Often, I have people take one of each twice daily.

Evening Primrose Oil - Provides essential fatty acids including GLA required by the thyroid to function properly. GLA, appears to increase the rate that stored fat is burned for energy, thereby helping with weight loss. It is helpful in balancing all of the glandular system and helps to reduce hot flashes in menopausal women. Take 3-6 per day

Barnes Basal body temperature test - This test reflects your metabolic rate - thus thyroid function. It was considered and is still considered a reliable test for thyroid function:

  • Shake down thermometer to below 95 degrees F, place it by your bed before going to sleep at night.
  • On waking, place the thermometer in you arm pit for a full 10 minutes. It is important to move as little as possible. Do not get up until the 10 minutes is over.
  • Read & record temperature, do this 3 days in a row. Menstruating women should perform this test on the second, third, and fourth days of menstruation.
  • Normal temperatures should be between 97.6 & 98.2 degrees F. Lower temps are
probable of Hypothyroidism (low thyroid function).
